Planning your visit to Metz
In Metz, the chalets are spread over several squares in the city centre, from Place Saint-Louis to Place d’Armes. As in Colmar or Strasbourg, the best way to enjoy the market is to follow a walking loop from one square to the next at nightfall, when the illuminations take over.
The markets open at 11am and close at 9pm from Sunday to Thursday, and at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Good to know for weekends: public transport and park-and-ride car parks are free on Saturdays and Sundays until 27 December, which saves looking for a parking space in the centre.
For a first visit, allow half a day to get round all the squares without rushing. Friday and Saturday evenings are the liveliest; a weekday afternoon is calmer for shopping. Each market’s page on the Saveur Marché map gives the exact address and directions.
